Happy birthday to Jesus!
Maybe it is a little too early to look back year 2009,
but it takes time to reflect, think and count those blessings through the year,
so it is best to make it just a few days earlier. (Because there have been sooooooooo many of them.)
I would like to share with you the theme of this year is, "keep rowing the boat".
Why such theme for the year? Simply because I got this message from a Bible study session.
Church & FellowshipI go to HY Church for Sunday worship. Sometimes, I brought my family members to church fellowships, services or events. The reason why I took them to, simply because I believe they will find answers to their life situations. I just found it amazing that it always happens in that way. God spoke to them personally, just amazing. I was in fear and in awe.
This is my second year in Bible Study Fellowship. I am studying the Book of John. It was indeed a very encouraging and fruitful experience. I just treasure the message that spoke through God's words. I have started to have the habit of studying thee Bible first before I start the day. (But sometimes, I could not do so, but I am still trying to make it.)
One of the most important lesson I have learnt from the Book of John is 6:16-21. After Jesus fed the 5000, he sent the disciples to a boat and told them to cross the lake first. Then, he retreated to a mountain and pray. So what's happened to the disciples on the boat?
Jesus Walks on the Water
When evening came, his disciples went down to the lake, where they got into a boat and set off across the lake for Capernaum. By now it was dark, and Jesus had not yet joined them. A strong wind was blowing and the waters grew rough. When they had rowed three or three and a half miles, they saw Jesus approaching the boat, walking on the water; and they were terrified. But he said to them, "It is I; don't be afraid." Then they were willing to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading.
It is an often heard passage. I took it for granted too. Well, when I came across the question asking what did the disciples have to do before they could arrive at the destination. Well, this is a very interesting question. But the Holy Spirit revealed the answer through the passage.
"
Rowing the boat."
Is it as simple as that? I wondered.
Just as it is. In the Bible study lecture, the teacher taught about this passage and she mentioned, the water was rough and the it was dark in the lake.
What would you do if you were the disciples?
Stop rowing?
Or just let the wind wash you away?
What should be done then?
Continue to row against the wind, because they were obeying the Lord's command and being faithful in the will of God. The Lord has spoken, "It is I; Don't be afraid." it also means, "It is the I AM who are sending you." Take Jesus into the boat and let him control of everything.
Academic work
After I have my proposal approved last year, I have started to polish and finetune the gadgets of the proposal. This Summer, I was finding different datasets for my dissertation. In September, some of the data have been collected and preliminary data analysis has been done. Some more have been completed yesterday. If these analyses still work, I have completed one third of my dissertation.
Recently, I have picked up my usual role as an "data miner" and "data engineer" for Fatandrewlo's study. It's a very humbling experience, hahaha,...... especially about how to "transpose" a dataset...hahaha. Well, I have forgotten most basic techniques to SPSS, so it took me quite a lot of time to re-learn these things.
Just to share a mental map of mine recently.
It has been filled with numbers......
(just for fun, actually it was a print-out, but it happened I did not know how to feed the paper, so I got this "artistic" image.)
TravelI went to Hokkaido with my parents during Chinese New Year. The trip was great and we had a great time there. Oh, the food was great also......
FamilyFull of babies in both my Mon & Father's families. I have 「升呢」, I become 表姑媽 & 表姨媽. Just feel God's grace whenever I play with these babies. Their smiles just melt my heart.
This year I had more chance to cook dinner. My best dish is steamed pork ribs. Last night, I just received a star ranking from the Top Chef of the house (Top Chef = my mom).
Not & Zero + meWatercolor has dominated my drawing this year. Maybe because it is more handy and I have started to grasp the technique of drawing with water.
Year 2009 Projects:- "Not Zero Download", a free downloading site has been set up. Please come and download e-cards.
- Drawing some recipes after I have cooked.
- Some ad hoc stuff, like drawing on FAi's company product for display, illustration for Sowers' Action.
- Christmas cards and some birthday cards
- hand-made medium size not & zero.
Well, all these were already God's grace and blessings. Praise the Lord for all these things, for He is good and His great love endures forever! We also want to say many BIG thank you-s to our family and friends who love us and help us with anything, no matter big or small. We are deeply grateful!
Peace be with you & God bless,
Yannie + not & zero.
